Friday’s rain left the lake flooded and very coloured, in fact, by the time I arrived there were few swims fishable
Despite this I was quite excited at the new challenge this offered - after a frustrating week I fancied something new. After a walk round to chat to the anglers there, mostly pikers, I was torn between two swims. Given the volume of water that was passing through the lake I felt that obvious places to find fish would be around the in and out flows.
Having weighed up the options, I settled on the water inflow at the deeper, sheltered end of the lake as I felt that with a cold night in store, fish might move into the warmer water there. I also felt confident of finding a clear path created by the fast flowing water which I knew would have passed through the inlet.
A bright sunny afternoon yielded little excitement, but the early evening was something different. After watching several large patches of bubbles erupt in the general area of my bait, I was ready to leap into action when, as the bubbles moved closer, my right hand bobbin dropped an inch. Then 2 more inches. Then nothing. Shortly followed by a large swirl on the surface. Damn!
The only conclusion I can draw is that the rig had failed. A disappointing outcome, but iIhave to remain confident that my rigs are fundamentally sound, and that sometimes luck is just not with you.
The rest of the session was entirely uneventful, other than for a rather spectacular, though chilly, dawn.
