Day 2

With a long day at university looming, i only fished a few hours into darkness tonight. As it turned out, my only action was a series of bleeps on my left hand rod. Being the coiled spring, ever-ready-for-action sort that i am, i quickly struck the rod, only to find a rather sheepish looking hedgehog balled up beneath my buzzer.

Obviously wandering into my line had given him as much of a shock as it had me!

After hours: Day 1

Now the season’s finished I’m camped out on our ‘Rouge’ lake for a couple of weeks, fishing as much as possible in between work and uni. Got started last night with this lovely 16lb 4oz Mirror.

(Finally got a decent pic, after a few…ahem…technical difficulties with the new camera)

Caught at sunset on Essential baits Shellfish B5, fished next to a drain at about 30 yards on an inline set-up with a 10 inch Super-nova hooklink.

Roll on Tuesday night!

Some fishing, and more on the horizon!

It’s been a bit of a lean spell in terms of time on the bank for me over the last coupe of months. In September i started a course at the local university to improve my French, and this has meant that any free time has been spent with my head in a dictionary and a puzzled frown upon my brow!

On the bright side, the Exclusive Angling Holidays season draws to a close on friday and with it comes the chance for me to get down onto Rouge and trick out some of those huge lumps - and hopefully some of the 40s that have remained uncaught all season. I was lucky enough to have a little sneak preview of what Rouge can produce in winter when, last week, i squeezed in alongside our customers for a night’s fishing.

I managed 5 runs, of which three were banked. The biggest, pictured below, weighed in at a shade under 29lbs, and was preceded by lovely specimens of 22lb 8oz and around 10lbs. The other two runs were botched on my part, i think i was a little rusty!

What have I been reading today?

Big fat blank!

Another short overnighter ‘Up the Grand’, resulting in a disappointing blank. A clear and chilly night, followed by a heavy dew and a fabulous misty dawn brought only one small liner. I had hoped for a little more action, since there were fish (not necessarily carp though) crashing around my end of the lake.

Interestingly, there was a large encampment of carpers bivvied up at the opposite end of the lake - the first time i’ve seen other carpers on the water. I wonder if they’d been reading this blog. Given the results of the last two sessions, probably not!

More bait tonight and hopefully another session tomorrow night :-)

What have I been reading today?

Thursday night’s fishing…

A quick and dirty blank up at ‘The Grand’ (the new water i’ve been fishing, see previous entry). I think i let my spot go quiet for too long, with nearly 2 weeks since my last session there. Still, i baited heavily before i left on Friday morning so hopefully next time they’ll be in the area and looking to feed!

It was a beautiful night though, and despite only having one small liner i enjoyed being back out there again and getting into the rhythm of fishing this water. I can’t wait for the next session…
